The Australian Science Fiction Foundation's main purpose is to sponsor and encourage the creation and appreciation of science fiction in Australia through a variety of activities. Along with conferring two awards, it also
- Sponsors an annual Amateur SF Competition
- Provides seed funding for conventions
- Provides support to the Australian fan funds
